Key to leafhopper subfamilies of Hawaii:
The first key is a generic key to the Subfamilies of Cicadellidae represented on the Hawaiian archipelago. The key is basic and will be updated to include images in the near future.
Species key(s) to endemic Hawaiian Leafhoppers:
This key is comprises species of the genera Nesophrosyne and Kirkadelia. The genus Nesophrosyne is split into to subgenera: Nesophrosyne and Nesoreias based on tegminal venation. The species included are those commonly found in Hawaii Volcanoes Nation Park, Kipuka Puaulu (Bird Park). Males and females are included for those collected. Specimens were collected in October of 2006, and will be deposited in the Essig Museum at U.C. Berkeley. This key is partially adapted from Insects of Hawaii Volume 4 (Zimmerman 1948). All drawings and photos are originals provided be the author of this key. This key will be updated in the near future to include all of the documented species on the island of Hawaii.
