OUTLINE

Our meeting will start with opening sessions at 2pm on August 12th at the University of California at Berkeley, Clark Kerr Campus, and will continue at Berkeley through the 13th.  On this evening the group will travel to San Francisco's Chinatown for an authentic Chinese banquet and theatre.

On the 14th the Conference will move to the fabulous Mammoth Mountain Inn at Mammoth Lakes, located on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada, tucked between some of the tallest peaks on the continent and the Great Basin desert. En route to Mammoth Lakes, we will visit the world-famous Yosemite National Park and look at the significant role currently played by root diseases are in shaping the Yosemite Valley forest. The effect of intensive management on the spread of root diseases will be discussed during this field trip.  One supper in Mammoth will be held at Red Meadow's Pack Station, where attendees will enjoy a 'Cowboy Barbeque' complete with fiddlers, singers and wagon rides!

After a full day of sessions, we will leave Mammoth on the 16th to visit the Ghost town of Bodie, Mono Lake and Lake Tahoe, where the effects of root rots and their interaction with insects will be our focus, as well as possibly witness the devastation resulting from the recent Angora fire. We will overnight at the Plumpjack Inn at Squaw Valley in the northern Tahoe area before continuing to Medford, Oregon on the 17th.

En route we will stop at Lassen Volcanic National Park to discuss Armillaria and annusus, and visit an additional black stain root disease site at McCloud Flats at the foot of Mout Shasta. While this will be a long day of travel, it is sure to be the highlight of California scenery (and disease).

After a night of rest at the Red Lion Inn at Medford, a final field trip is scheduled to Crater Lake National Park on the 18th; lunch will be provided. The last field trip is a "must-attend" as root disease centers caused by Phellinus weririi and Armillaria surround the deepest lake in the US.  A hearty supper at the nearby Lake of the Woods Lodge is scheduled for this evening.

Sessions will conclude around noon on the 19th, after which participants can be dropped off at the Medford airport in Oregon.
