Merry Christmas! Have you guys opened presents, yet? :) I hope everyone's having a great time over the break. I'm home in SoCal right now with my family. Spending holidays with family just make them that much more special for me.
Anyways, I'm the only one up in my house right now. We stayed up pretty late last night just chatting away. I wish I was still asleep. I'm not sleepy, but I feel like I should make use of the holidays to sleep as much as possible. For some odd reason, I haven't been able to sleep past 7 or 8 am, even when I go to bed at 3 am. Anyways, enough about my sleeping patterns.
We opened presents yesterday. It was so awesome! Don't you love it when you get useful presents? Something you can actually put to good use, instead of just staring at it? Each of the presents I received showed me how much my family cares and pays attention to things going on in my life. Each present comes with a story that I'm going to share with you guys right now.
My mom and my sister got me a very nice watch for Christmas. At first, I was a slightly sad that I got such a nice watch. Don't get me wrong, I love watches. It's just that over the years, I've already broken/lost about 16 watches and I'm afraid I'm going to damage this one as well. I'm going to try and keep this watch in good condition, though.
My stepdad and stepsister both gave me presents that are going to be extremely helpful up in Berkeley. So, some background info: At my studio in Berkeley, heat is included in the rent, but this means that the landlord controls when the heat is turned on...which is practically never. My roommate and I basically freeze to death, wearing three layers of clothing indoors. We complained but were told that heat was only turned on during "peak hours," which as far as we can figure, is about 15 minutes at 4 pm, midnight, and 7 am. During finals, I spent most of the time studying in bed, wrapped in a cocoon of blankets.
So, back to what my stepdad and stepsister gave me. My stepdad got me a warming blanket, the kind you can plug in and it keeps you cozy all night long. I was ecstatic when I got it. It was literally a dream come true. I'm not going to freeze to death anymore! My stepsister got me a plushy bathrobe to keep me warm. I just felt so touched that they all paid attention to my complaints about freezing in Berkeley.
The last present I got was from my 9-year-old brother. Those of you who know me well will totally crack up about this. My brother got me a box of Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds from Costco. It's so funny. I'm totally addicted to cereal and Honey Bunches is my favorite. On my last birthday, people kept asking me what I wanted, but I kept saying that I didn't want anything. My friends kept joking that they were going to get me a huge box of cereal, but of course they didn't. I guess you have to be 9-years-old to actually give someone a box of cereal without receiving weird looks. I absolutely loved the present; I started munching on it right away...so much for getting over that addiction.
It doesn't take snow to make it feel like Christmas, all it takes is an atmosphere of happiness and warmth. I hope everyone's having a great Christmas!
Now I'm at the end of this post and still no one's up, yet.
