The MFP is a recruiting program designed to enable Sandia National Laboratories to meet its affirmative action goals, while building its capabilities with exceptional employees who have earned advanced technical degrees and demonstrated the attributes necessary to work at one of the premier national laboratories in the United States.

Requirements:

To be eligible for Sandia’s MFP, candidates must be a minority student who is currently pursuing a B.S. degree in a technical discipline such as engineering, science, computer science, computer engineering, etc., with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2/4.0 and an expected graduation timeframe of December 2007 or June 2008.

Other program requirements include:

(1) an ability and desire to obtain an M.S. degree in a discipline that fulfills Sandia’s business needs;

(2) a record of leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities (i.e., professional associations, community organizations);

(3) a demonstrated ability to develop and present ideas and results in oral and written form;

(4) an ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Energy security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is required.

Successful candidates will be self-directed, innovative, organized, able to work in a large team environment, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Demonstrated leadership skills and an interest in working in a multiple disciplinary lab environment are highly desirable.

Candidates who are selected as MFP participants must fulfill the following additional requirements:

(1) must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 throughout the course of the program; and

(2) must return to Sandia as a member of the hiring organization’s technical team to fulfill their service requirement of one for one (i.e., two years participation in MFP translates to a two-year commitment to be an employee at Sandia).

The MFP participants will reap a host of benefits such as:

(1) the ability to pursue a graduate degree on a full-time basis, while remaining on roll as an employee, but being absent from Sandia;

(2) full payment of tuition and tuition-associated costs;

(3) an annual stipend;

(4) full-time regular employee benefits while in the program (with the exception of vacation accrual); and

(5) the opportunity to return to Sandia as a member of the hiring organization’s technical team to make contributions and to solve problems of national and international importance.
