Project Overview

Intern will work with the environmental sustainability function in the EHS department to perform key subject-matter projects, database consolidation, and research into leading sustainability opportunities. Project responsibilities will include:

** Research internationally accepted protocols regarding corporate climate change strategies, priorities, and action plans.

** Benchmark multinational company approaches to climate change, including their alignment with organizations and participation in registry programs; make recommendation regarding LS&CO. program.

** Using internal data from various sources, work with LS&CO. stakeholders to finalize LS&CO.’s 2006 and 2007 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories. Identify opportunities to reduce GHG emissions, and develop business case as applicable.


** Assessing GHG inventories and GHG reduction opportunities, develop recommendations regarding reduction targets and timeframes. Develop business case for recommended targets as applicable.

** Assist in the development of an internal energy/GHG information management system.

** Research and track renewable energy development and define viable opportunities for select LS&CO. locations.

** Research and develop recommendations regarding Green Building standards for retail stores. Present findings to various internal stakeholders.

** Conduct research and prepare information regarding environmental benefits of cost savings opportunities as selected by various departments in the organization (e.g., reduced air freight, packaging, etc.)

** Ability to actively seek out information from various internal and external stakeholders.

** Ability to perform targeted research and distill research results into business opportunities.

Key relationships / Peers: Environmental Affairs Manager, Environmental Site Assessment Manager, Procurement Specialist, Facilities and Real Estate Specialist, LOS Store Managers.


Intern Project Requirements

** Education level and preferred major: Minimum of 2 years undergraduate program, preferably in Environment Studies, Economics, Environmental Engineering, Energy & Resources, or related program.

** Experience: Some class work in environmental science, economics, and basic statistics and mathematics is preferred.

** Knowledge, Skills, &Abilities:

- Have a background or interest in the apparel industry


- Open to experience and learn distinct aspects of the business

- Willing to perform a variety of different types and levels of work

- Intellectually curious with a proven ability to learn

- Self starter and independent

- Ability to present strong, fact-based point of view

- Prioritization, problem solving, and analytical skills

- Organizational and communication skills

Hours per week student is needed: 35 to 40 during summer semester

Length of Assignment (weeks): 12 during summer semester
