NEW Latino/a Undergraduate Student Public Policy Mentorship Program

Latino/a graduate students of the Goldman School of Public Policy (GSPP) are now accepting mentee applications from Latino/a Cal undergrads interested in public policy.
WHAT: A new FREE public policy mentorship program for ALL Latino/a undergraduate students at Cal.
Ø Learn more about a public policy graduate program.
Ø Receive guidance on the graduate school application process.
Ø Share public policy interests with your mentor.
Ø Meet other students with similar interests.
*All policy interests applicable (health, politics, education, immigration, etc.)*
HOW: Submit an easy interest form and get paired up!
Ø Apply: Interested undergrads. email a request to be paired with a mentor.
Ø Kick-off Mixer: Attend a kick-off mixer at GSPP. Date: TBA.
Ø Mentorship: Mentors & mentees interact at least twice a month. (Ex:Campus event, coffee – commitment established between mentor & mentee.) Ø Social: All participants attend a year-end social at GSPP. Date: TBA.

PPIA Program Accepting Applications

The Public Policy & International Affairs (PPIA) Fellowship Program at the University of California , Berkeley , Goldman School of Public Policy is accepting applications for the summer of 2010.
Program Information
The Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Junior Summer Institute is an intensive seven week academic training program for college juniors. The summer institute prepares undergraduate students for graduate studies in public policy and international affairs. Participants complete course work in economics, statistics, and policy analysis; and visit local, state and federal government agencies and non profit organizations. Each year we select thirty students to participate in the program from across the country.
Students selected to participate receive:
* Assistance with travel expenses to and from the Summer Institute * $1000 Stipend
* Free room and board
* Free books and materials
* A minimum $5000 fellowship from a consortium graduate school where the PPIA fellow is accepted
Eligibility
-Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents
-Applicants must apply during their junior year of college
-Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in policy issues most affecting historically underserved communities, including African Americans, Asian Americans/South Asians, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, Latinos/as and a commitment to working on these issues, as shown by past and/or current service.

Black Undergraduate Student Public Policy Mentorship Program
The Black students of Goldman School of Public Policy are excited to announce the formation of Blacks in Public Policy (BIPP). One of our initiatives includes the goal of cultivating a relationship with Black Cal undergrads interested in policy.
Our program structure is as follows:
· APPLY: Interested undergrads email a request & then are matched with a mentor
· OPENING: All participants attend Kick-off Mixer at GSPP, Date: TBA ·
THROUGHOUT: Mentors & mentees are to interact at least twice a month, Ex) attend BIPP event, coffee, movie – level and frequency of interact is up to mentor/mentee
· CLOSING: All participants attend a Year-End Social at GSPP, Date: TBA
