The McNair Scholars Program provides a $2800 stipend, GRE prep, fee waivers for applying to graduate school, public speaking training, and an opportunity to publish. It provides guidance for students to engage in an intensive independent research project over the summer.
Eligibility:
- Must be interested in obtaining a Ph.D. degree*
- Must have completed more than 60 units by June 2010
- Must have a GPA of at least 3.0 by the end of Fall 2009
- Must be either: 1) a low-income** and first generation college student
or 2) underrepresented in higher education
- Must be either a citizen or a permanent resident of the United States
- Must be enrolled at UC Berkeley during Spring 2010
- Must be available to do full time research in the Summer of 2010

NIAID, Intramural NIAID Research Opportunities (INRO) program

NIAID, the second largest Institute at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), offers the Intramural NIAID Research Opportunities (INRO) program for students from populations underrepresented in biomedical sciences. Candidates in strong academic standing who are a college-level junior or senior, medical school student, or doctoral candidate are eligible.Accepted applicants will Hear scientific lectures by world-renowned scientists, Interview with scientists for potential research training positions at the Institute's Maryland and Montana laboratories, Tour NIAID laboratories and view state-of-the-science technologies. The 4-day exploratory program takes place in Bethesda, MD, on the NIH campus, February 1-4, 2010. HUMAN RIGHTS POSTER SESSION
The Human Rights Fellows Conference on November 5, 2009 at the International House, UC Berkeley, seeks applicants for a poster session. The poster session is an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to share information about their current research and fieldwork in the area of domestic and international human rights. Application Requirements: A current CV or resume; An abstract describing your human rights research and fieldwork (3 page limit, double-spaced, 12 point font); A completed poster session application cover sheet.
