1. American Red Cross @ Cal Presents: "Humanitarian Law Seminar"
WHEN: Saturday, November 7th, 2009
WHERE: 103 Wheeler
TIME: 1:30 - 5 pm

Provides an overview of the Geneva Conventions, the basic rules of international humanitarian law and the role of the Red Cross during armed conflict. Course will be taught by instructor Joan Kelley-Williams from the Bay Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.


2. 2010 MCAT Information
Forwarded on behalf of the AAMC:

1) MCAT Registration will open Monday, November 2. We regret we cannot announce a specific opening time.

2) The 2010 MCAT Essentials are now posted online at

3) We have posted a chart indicating which AAMC-member schools have indicated they will accept January 2010 scores for the current application year (i.e., applications for the 2010 entering class). 3. Duke University School of Medicine Admissions Presentation
Dr. Brenda Armstrong (Dean of Admissions) will present admissions information on the school of medicine. If you plan to apply to Duke University School of Medicine or would like to know how to strengthen yourself as a medical school applicant, plan to attend this workshop.

a) Cal UPHC Presents: Faculty Mixer!
The Undergraduate Public Health Coalition would like to invite all of you to our annual Faculty Mixer! The mixer is a great opportunity to connect with professors from the School of Public Health and learn about their current research. The event is designed to create a comfortable atmosphere for students and faculty to meet and mingle. The event is business casual, with hors d'oeuvres and refreshments provided.

Come join us in exploration of an exciting field of integrative medicine! Series of lectures from practitioners of different fields, various hands-on workshops, discussion panel, as well as information tables await you!

c) AMSA 10th General Meeting
The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) 10th General Meeting: Medical Scholars Program (MSP) at the University of Illinois College of Medicine

Guest Speaker: We welcome Tony Jimenez, the coordinator of the Medical Scholars Program (MSP) at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign. This is a MD/PhD program committed to preparing a diverse cadre of academic Physician-Scholars to confront the multi-dimensional problems that face medicine. Tony Jimenez will be at this week's general meeting to speak about the opportunities that MSP at the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine has to offer.

b) UCSF/Kaiser Women's Health Undergraduate Research Internship
The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences in partnership with Kaiser Northern CA is offering a summer research program in women's health based at UCSF for the summer of 2010. This program is ten weeks in length, and includes a research project, clinical shadowing at UCSF and Kaiser Oakland/Richmond, and weekly seminars in women's health/field trips to clinics in SF. If you are interested in learning more about this program, come to an information session on Monday, November 9, 2009 from 6:30 to 7:30 at 2063 VLSB where the Co-Directors (Juan Guerra MD, Patricia Robertson MD) and students who participated in the program last summer will be talking about the program. c) Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP)
Application Opens November 1, 2009

The Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) is a free six week summer academic enrichment program for college freshman and sophomore students who are interested in a career in medicine or dentistry. The goal of the program is to prepare aspiring freshman and sophomores to become competitive applicants to medical and dental school.

Application opens: November 1, 2009
Application deadline: March 1, 2010
