Asian American Studies 127 - South Asian American Historical and Contemporary Social Issues
Control number: 06095
MW 4-5:30, 79 Dwinelle Hall
Immigrants from South Asia or the Indian subcontinent have made their homes in the U.S. for over a hundred years, yet there is little awareness of the history and complexity of their communities.
Using personal narratives, scholarly works, community studies, films and literature, we will examine where South Asians fit in American history, politics and economics. We will address topics such as migration, diaspora and transnationalism, race and ethnicity, activism and resistance, gender and sexuality, and youth culture and identity formation.
