Public Health Intern Position at the American Lung Association

The American Lung Association association’s regional headquarters in Emeryville is looking for the right person for its John E. Bess Internship Program (JEBI). This is an unpaid internship position which lasts for a minimum of 6 months and begins January 1. Very flexible hours, averaging about 15 per week. Some work can be done from home.

This position will work closely with the American Lung Association’s in California’s Senior Program Director, a graduate of Cal. Major activities this year will include the development and operationalization of a marketing and distribution plan for an educational video for persons with COPD (emphysema and chronic bronchitis), collecting and summarizing highlights from Lung Association staff from around the state, and assistance with grant writing. Other projects may include teaching asthma education in local schools, assistance with writing manuscripts for publication, and general assistance. Specific projects will depend to some extent on interest and ability.

This is a unique opportunity to learn about public health and build experience in the areas of public health, medicine, health education, and non-profit work. The John E. Bess Intern will work on meaningful activities that will help people in tangible ways. Letter of reference may be provided at end of service.

The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and the ability to take initiative. Writing sample is required (Roughly 1 page single-spaced. Do not compose something new, rather attach an existing piece of your writing).
