I. Now Hiring! Forest Management Team with Southern California Edison
Shaver Lake, CA

Our Forest is ideally situated in the High Sierra, with easy access to Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Sequoia, and multiple Wilderness areas. Southern California Edison owns and manages 20,000 acres of prime timberland surrounding Shaver Lake and Dinkey Creek. Edison’s management regime is centered around Selection Silviculture, Prescribed Fire, Wildlife Habitat Enhancement, and Recreational Use.

We will be hiring 4 forestry technicians this coming summer to perform our annual inventory, plant trees, perform THP work etc. We are hiring a wildlife intern to perform wildlife surveys, and habitat restoration projects. We are also hiring 2 interpretive interns to conduct nature hikes, campfire talks and environmental education in our lakeshore campground.

NOTE: This is a full-time position and appropriate for individuals who will/have graduated from UC Berkeley and are either planning to apply to medical school this summer or are planning to take one year off before applying to medical school.

-Paid position with benefits commensurate with experience (ranges from $24,000 to $35,000)

-See patients and help doctors with patient management in Pinole, CA (10 min from Berkeley)
-Increased clinical responsibility with ability
-Assist and observe surgery
-1 year in duration of full time work
-Develop management consulting skills, understand the business aspects of medicine, billing and coding, front office operations, insurance plans and the health care system currently in the US, very useful later on as none of this is taught in medical school.
-Participate in international trips for research and humanitarian work
-Research leading to publications 1 day per week. Expected to publish at least 2 papers
-Mentorship by surgeon who has been on 3 medical school admissions committees and can aid in applications and getting into medical school. An ideal gap year before medical school.

Typical schedule:
Monday: See and work up patients 8am to 530pm, participate in local anesthetic surgery
Tuesday: Surgery day/ research/ or clinic varies week to week 7:30 to 4pm
Wed/Thurs: See and work up patients 8am to 530pm
Fri: Research day/ clerical work

The Green Science Policy Institute (GSP) seeks a part time/full time program assistant to
provide support for our work reducing toxic chemicals in consumer products to protect health
and the environment.

The program assistant (PA) supports the projects and the activities of the organization including
research, writing, and project management work; drafts materials for distribution and
publication; and maintains relationships with partner organizations.

Overview of the Green Science Policy Institute:
The Green Science Policy Institute provides unbiased scientific data to government, industry and non‐governmental organizations to reduce the use of toxic chemicals in consumer products. Program Assistant Position Duties:
This position will work directly with GSP’s executive director and perform the following tasks
depending on current needs:
• Support GSP projects based on the applicant’s interests and abilities. Current projects
include: education of California parents and decision makers about fire retardant
chemicals in consumer products; epidemiology studies of highly exposed workers; green
building campaign; China education and epidemiology projects; California state
legislation to reduce the use of toxic flame retardants in baby products, furniture and bed
coverings; and responsible end‐of‐life disposal for foam and plastic treated with fire
• Develop educational and presentation materials and assist the executive director with
drafting materials for publication in newspapers, trade journals and scientific journals.
• Aid in the preparation of the Green Science Policy Symposia at UC Berkeley (three times
a year).
• Provide support for general operations and fundraising, including identifying potential
funders and grant writing.
• Provide administrative support to the executive director including: responding to
inquiries and invitations; managing contacts database, drafting correspondence,
maintaining files, and general office work.

Position Expectations and Qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree involving major study in public health, public policy,
environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences.
• Ability to take initiative, think creatively, and work independently
• Excellent organizational, written and verbal communications skills
• Mastery of Microsoft Office including Powerpoint, Word, Excel and Internet research
• Attention to detail, diligence, persistence
• Ability to work well in a team environment
• Experience and knowledge of chemistry, biology, public health or/or public policy
• Familiarity with Access

Compensation and Hours:
This is a flexible part‐time position that could become full time depending on the skill of the
program assistant and funding. The PA should be available to work in our Berkeley Hills office
20‐30 hours/week for a year or more starting as soon as possible. Compensation will be based
on experience. Our office is not convenient to BART.
