II. Education Abroad Program (EAP) in Africa and Europe
BERKELEY – The UC Education Abroad Program (EAP) is offering UC students new program opportunities in Botswana, Tanzania, Turkey, and Russia beginning in the 2011-12 academic year.

“In response to strong student demand, UCEAP is excited to offer two new programs in Africa, to supplement current EAP offerings in Ghana and South Africa,” said EAP Regional Director Mary McMahon. “We especially hope that the opportunity to explore community public health in Botswana and development issues in Tanzania will inform student interest in these interdisciplinary fields.”

The EAP Botswana program, offered in affiliation with CIEE in the fall semester, features classes at the University of Botswana in the country’s capital of Gaborone. Students may choose courses from social sciences, natural sciences, humanities, engineering, technology, and Setswana language. A special track for students interested in public health offers coursework and community service related to this topic.

Hosted at the University of Dar es Salaam, a spring semester EAP Tanzania program provides students the opportunity to explore development studies through study in social sciences, natural sciences, humanities, engineering, technology, and Kiswhali language. This EAP program is also through affiliation with CIEE.

Students on the EAP Russia program will live and learn at St. Petersburg State University in options for summer language and culture, as well as semester Russian Area Studies and semester and year Russian language. The program replaces EAP’s previous offering to Moscow State University.

According to EAP Regional Director Linda York, “offering programs in both semesters and the summer will give students more choice and flexibility for studying in Russia.”

On EAP Turkey, students will have the opportunity to study in a wide range of courses and subjects this summer at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul. EAP also offers semester and year programs in the capital city of Ankara at Bilkent University and Middle East Technical University. Students who study for the summer in Istanbul may stay on for the fall or year program in Ankara.
