Custodial Communications Project Intern:
The goal of the Custodial Communications Project is to bridge the gap
between custodial staff and building inhabitants in order to promote
sustainability efforts and communication, as well as increase mutual respect
and appreciation for the work of both groups. The intern's major job will be
to facilitate meetings with custodians, Physical Plant staff, and building
managers as well as to compile a "Meet your Custodian" newsletter. A
yearlong commitment, the intern will receive a stipend of $3000. For more

The Energy Policy Institute (EPI) at Boise State University invites interested applicants for the position of Research Assistant/Associate Professor (RAP), depending on experience, to become a part of our team to continue our quest toward becoming a Metropolitan Research University of Distinction. The RAP will contribute to research on all types of energy (e.g. renewable, nuclear, fossil), and the chosen candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers from other universities and national laboratories. EPI has secured over $4 million in external grants and is at the forefront of research on electricity transmission and energy infrastructure siting. Recent funders include the US Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, and the Western Governors’ Association. You will have the opportunity to:
· design and carry out research
· write applied research reports and peer-reviewed publications
· participate in grant proposals to federal, state, industry, and non-profit funding organizations

At a minimum you should have:

DEVELOP is a NASA Science Mission Directorate Applied Sciences Training and Development Program. Students and young professionals work on Earth science research projects, mentored by science advisors from NASA and partner agencies to extend research results to local communities. The projects demonstrate to community leaders and organizations how NASA science measurements and predictions can be used to address local policy issues.
Past projects at DEVELOP JPL include ecological forecasting and studies of the BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico, natural hazard assessments of Los Angeles earthquakes and fires, air quality monitoring, and coastal wetland and sea level monitoring using remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS). DEVELOP participants have had the opportunity in the past to present their research and network at such conferences as the International Astronautical Congress (IAC), The American Geophysical Union (AGU), The American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS), The American Meteorological Society (AMS), The Council of State Governments (CSG), at NASA Langley Research Center, and at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC.
The NASA DEVELOP Program was selected to receive the prestigious NASA Group Achievement Award for 2011. DEVELOP participants are challenged to think “outside the box,” take initiative, employ innovative ideas, gain valuable management and leadership experience, and gain experience in delivering results to officials in government, academia, and industry, thereby extending the benefits of NASA science and technology to the public. Ultimately, DEVELOP participants are better prepared to handle environmental science challenges that face our society and future generations.
DEVELOP had the opportunity to attend the 62nd International Astronautical Congress in Cape Town, South Africa from September 28 - October 8 this year. Three DEVELOP participants were selected from a video competition to speak on a panel at the plenary, titled “Next Generation Visions for Earth Observations in the 21st Century.” They also presented and published their research in the 62nd International Astronautical Congress Proceedings.
DEVELOP participants also presented their research in a virtual poster session, hosted by Earthzine, of which our Jet Propulsion Laboratory location was the winner:
Interns work in student teams to complete rapid research projects in 10 weeks using NASA remote sensing data and other data sources. Join Grassroots Campaigns as a Field Manager
Field managers (FMs) make up the leadership team in each campaign office. Not only do they set the example for all field staff in their fundraising capabilities but also are lead the way training new staff in the office and in the field and motivating a team of 2-6 canvassers daily, including setting goals, and developing strategies to hit those goals. Field managers work to create a line of communication between the campaign directors and field staff and are integral to the success of any campaign. They train, motivate and lead crews out into the field every day. Field Managers will work with the directors on strategically planning how to tackle towns and areas that we canvass. Every successful outreach campaign has a set of strong field managers at its core.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB:
• Train new staff
- You will train staff out in the field by being a good role model for the new staff person
- In the office, you will help run workshops to focus on specific skills to develop the new staff’s confidence in the work and the campaign.
• Manage 2-6 staff – including setting goals, improving canvassing skills and providing motivation for team to do well.
- Set goals according to individual performance of staff
- Lead canvassers to various neighborhoods working with them to hit team goals
- Meet with team at the end of the day and report back to directors
• Keep track of logistics for canvassing at sites
• Exemplify high standards by being one of the highest averaging canvassers in the office
• Be responsible for tracking and cashing in funds raised at sites
• Develop and implement a strategy to hit fundraising goals.
As a part of the leadership team, FMs put in a significant commitment to the campaign. FM hours can be extended up to an hour daily. FMs are expected to attend a weekly leadership meeting with the canvass director.
