The 2012 IARU Student Sustainability Fellowship provides one UC Berkeley undergraduate student1 with the opportunity to work on a campus sustainability project at one of the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU) member institutions (see list below). Projects will be institution-specific, but designed with the intention that lessons learned that can be applied at both the home and the host institution.

After being selected as a 2012 Student Sustainability Fellow, participants will be matched with a host university, based on expertise and availability. In general, host institutions will have selected the projects for the Fellows, but there may be some opportunity for students to expand their work based upon skill, interest and background. Fellows will work a standard [35+ hour] work week in the sustainability or related office of participating institutions and live in housing provided by the host institution. Supervision and oversight will be provided to the students throughout their stay. Students will have access to all resources required to complete their projects.
The Fellowship includes roundtrip airfare to the location and a stipend to the cover the cost of food. Housing will be provided by the host institution.

To apply to be a 2012 IARU Sustainability Fellow, please submit your resume, a short statement of interest and qualifications, including language skills, availability, and preferred Universities (no more than one page), and two references to Judy Chess (jchess@cp.berkeley.edu) by 5:00 pm, Monday February 6th. Questions can also be sent to that email address. Finalists will be invited to an interview the week of February 13th. The successful candidate will be notified by February 17th and the Fellow will be matched to host institutions by mid-March. ISF’s mission is to address the problem that Muslims are underrepresented in the fields of studies and occupations that make public policy and influence public opinion. We aim to bring about long term change by providing academic scholarships and internships for students in the fields of humanities, social sciences, liberal arts and law in order to encourage and support the future Muslim lawyers, politicians, writers, journalists, film makers and academicians of the society.

ISF offers a wide range of scholarships based on the fields and majors it supports. ISF also offers many joint scholarship programs with partner organization that share its common mission and vision. ISF accepts online applications once a year starting on January 1st for a period of three months. ISF accepts online applications once a year starting in January for a period of three months. Scholarships ranging from $1000-$10,000 will be awarded during the second week of August. With certain exceptions, ISF’s policy is to send checks directly to an applicant’s university. Exceptions can be made if the awards affect the applicant’s financial status. Requirements may slightly vary based on the specifics of each scholarship program.
