Oct 22 | Berkeley Water Group Meeting

Monday, October 22, 5:30 - 7pm
Blum Center for Developing Economies

The Berkeley Water Group is a forum for undergraduate and graduate students from different departments to collaborate and discuss their interdisciplinary research on topics related to water, including health, ecology, climate change, and more. The group meets Monday from 5:30 to 7pm every other week in the plaza level of the Blum Center for Developing Economies, and dinner is provided. The meeting format varies between guest speakers (including professors and visiting scholars) and students presenting research in an interactive discussion format. Students from every department on campus are represented, and we encourage interdisciplinary perspectives in the group. The Berkeley Water Group also serves as a hub through which participants can alert each other to talks, events and conferences addressing our shared interests. If you intend to participate, please RSVP to Rebecca Peters at rmpeters@berkeley.edu.

The goals of the group include:

- Producing an academic journal with graduate and advanced undergraduate papers on water related topics including health, hydrology, climate change, energy, agriculture, and more;
- Supporting student work on the Berkeley Big Ideas competition; connect new Big Ideas entrants with past winners;
- Linking undergraduates with graduate student mentors and faculty to oversee projects and research;
- Fostering innovative student research and projects on pathbreaking water related topics - water and gender, race, and social issues;
- Collaborating with faculty on starting a Water Science, Sustainability, and Policy minor;
- Launching a weekly digital newsletter with information from the meetings, water related events on campus and in the community, job postings, and internship opportunities;
- Polishing and developing our website and social media outreach strategies;
- Forging new relationships between BWG and other campus and community entities: Boalt's new water center, the Berkeley Water Center, and more!

Oct 24 | Asian American Pacific Medical Students Association General Meeting

Date: October 24
Location: 54 Barrows
Time: 7pm

Since its creation in 1995, Asian American Pacific Medical Students Association (APAMSA) has aimed to address the often-overlooked Asian American health issues in the medical community. APAMSA also focuses on providing support and understanding for Asian Pacific Americans (APA) interested in entering the medical profession. Over the past 15 years, APAMSA has grown to almost 90 chapters strong at medical schools all across the nation. The objective of this pre-med division of APAMSA is not only to provide resources and information for the medical school application process but also to spread awareness and understanding for the unique challenges APAs face in medicine. Through the efforts of its expansive network of pre-medical students, medical students and physicians, APAMSA ultimately strives to contribute to the improvement of the health and well-being of the APA community.
