2013 | Volunteer in Peru with WindAid

By locally building wind turbines, WindAid provides clean and affordable electricity for communities in Peru who have no access to electricity. We are based in Trujillo, Peru, and together with our volunteers we build both 2.5 kW and 500 Watt wind turbines for small communities and families that are part of some 7 million people in Peru living with no access to electricity. Volunteers have the opportunity to fully manufacture, assemble and install a wind turbine that is donated to a family, community, or school which needs it most, all the while getting to experience the life and cultures of Peru.

Participants in our projects do not need any pre-requisite skills (this includes no necessary pre-requisite Spanish) or knowledge of wind turbines, but can be involved in projects that have an immediate and direct impact on the lives of Peruvians. One wind turbine built by volunteers can provide lights for up to 37 homes, power 10 laptops for a school or run water pumps to bring running water to over 30 houses.

Practical experience with resin composites, carbon fiber, steel structures, electrical systems, aerodynamics, and many other disciplines are involved in our program. Additionally, the social aspects and unique entrepreneurial approach where success is measured in impact, not just bottom line, offer additional interesting learning experiences for the participants.

The dates for our upcoming 2013 projects are:

7th January - 1st February, 2013
11th February - 8th March, 2013
18th March - 12th April, 2013
22nd April - 17th May, 2013
27th May - 21st June, 2013
24th June - 19th July, 2013
5th August - 30th August, 2013
9th September - 4th October, 2013
14th October - 8th November, 2013
18th November - 10th December, 2013

Each project is limited to eight volunteers, and places do fill quickly (especially for the May - August projects), so interested volunteers should contact us as soon as possible. Long Term volunteer positions are considered on a case by case basis.
