The Presidio Trust is seeking an employee who will coordinate education, outreach and administrative duties that promote understanding, appreciation and stewardship of biodiversity in the Presidio. The successful candidate will provide program support for the Environmental and Outdoor Education Program and provide administrative support to the Conservation, Stewardship and Research Division. Conducts outreach, scheduling and delivery of field-based public programs for a wide variety of audiences and support the development and implementation of strategies to address education needs and issues. Coordinates the production and distribution of public education materials and media (signage, brochures, guides, website content, and newsletters) to promote awareness, protection and stewardship of the Presidio’s natural resources. Prepares, receives, processes, reviews, maintains and verifies a wide range of documents, compiles information for reports and provides information to callers and visitors. Serves as timekeeper and assists with budgeting. Full time position with benefits.

Bachelors degree in education or relevant field; excellent communication skills such as writing routine reports and correspondence, speaking before groups, computer competency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and at least one graphic design program; one year experience working within education or volunteer programs, preferably in resource conservation. Knowledge of local history and ecosystems is highly valued; experience working in a multicultural setting highly valued. Ability to work independently, be flexible, and multi-task effectively; ability to deal with problems having several concrete variables in standardized situations.

March 15 | Slide Ranch Summer Teachers-in-Residence

NOW HIRING FOR SUMMER 2013 TEACHERS!

Position timetable:

The 3-month Summer Teacher-in-Residence Internship (3 positions) runs from late May to mid-August. Applications are accepted from February through March.

Slide Ranch is accepting applications for the Summer Teacher-in-Residence Internship. This is a residential "live-on-the-ranch" position – tent-housing and food provided, plus monthly stipend. This 12-week position challenges you to grow as a person and as a professional outdoor educator. You will gain valuable hands-on experience in agricultural and environmental education and learn how to live and work in a rural setting as a member of a community.

June through August, Slide Ranch hosts 10 weeks of day camp. Summer camp participants learn to care for farm animals and gardens, explore miles of wildland trails, discover ocean tide pools, cook, and participate in arts & crafts projects. Our Teachers-in-Residence customize each program to meet the learning needs of children 5–12 years of age.

Teachers-in-Residence lead groups of 8 students in 5-day experiential education programs. After the camp day, Teachers participate in afternoon sessions involving teacher meetings, gardening, animal care, and/or facilities maintenance. Occasional teacher observations complement the position. Teachers are responsible for daily ranch chores outside of the 8-hour day. Residential responsibilities include weekly chores, cooking dinner for fellow residents twice each month, and monthly resident meetings.

Qualifications
Prior experience in education or working with children required. Gardening, animal care, environmental education, second language, and community living skills are valuable assets. Work can be physically demanding; will include manual labor such as shoveling, lifting up to 50 lbs., use of power tools, and farm chores outside of an 8-hour day.

March 15 | Naturalist Positions in Yosemite National Park

There are several openings for naturalist positions for the 2013 summer season in Yosemite National Park. Delaware North Companies Parks and Resorts has two different naturalist positions – Interpretive Services Naturalist 1 as well as Interpretive Services Naturalist 2. The Naturalist 2 position includes a higher level of responsibility and represents only 1 opening for the 2013 season. There will be as many as 4 openings for the Naturalist 1 position.

March 15 | CAPAL Paid Internship and Scholarship

FEDERAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: For the Internship Program Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL) will help place students in internships within the federal government in DC. Opportunities in regional offices, including California and Texas, may be possible. Interns will be placed in program management, legal and finance positions. These internship positions are suited for individuals looking to gain real-world federal government experience. CAPAL has partnerships with Federal Agencies including Agricultural Research Services and Forest Service.

Each CAPAL intern will be awarded a $3,000 stipend to support the successful completion of their internship plus $500 for travel reimbursement. Depending on your interests and placement, your duties could vary from policy or scientific research, project coordination and management, business, law, communication, and more. Applicants are asked to specify their preferences on the application, and those selected will be placed based on their interests and skills. Agricultural knowledge is not required.

March 17 | Cal Energy Corps Internship

The Cal Energy Corps is an internship program created to engage the best and brightest UC Berkeley undergraduates. Placements are challenging, hands-on assignments with leading organizations.

The Cal Energy Corps helps cover transportation and housing costs, as well as a weekly stipend of $600 for the duration of the internship. All placements are full-time.

Summer 2013 | California State Parks Jobs

California State Parks is currently hiring for seasonal positions at Donner Memorial State Park in Truckee; Sugar Pine Point, D.L. Bliss, and Emerald Bay State Parks on west shore of Lake Tahoe; and Plumas-Eureka State Park in Plumas County north of Lake Tahoe... Applications are now being accepted for park aides to work visitor services, at the entrance stations or visitor centers. Our season runs from May to September, and wherever possible, we try to work around employee school schedules. Starting salary is $9.98/hour.

State housing may be available for nominal rent in dorms or cabins within the parks.
