Are you planning on going to graduate school in the biological or behavioral sciences? Would financial, academic, professional, and peer support help you achieve your goals? Then check out the UC Berkeley Initiative for Maximizing Student Development (IMSD) and Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) Scholars Programs!

Extended deadline: April 7 at 11:59pm for a start date of June 1, 2013.

The goal of the programs is to increase the number of students from underrepresented groups who go on to PhD or joint MD/PhD programs in these fields. This includes, but is not limited to, underrepresented ethnic minorities, first generation college students, students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and students with disabilities.

Benefits include:

* Significant funding for research over 1 year (IMSD) or 2 years (MARC), including salary/stipend, conference travel, and lab supply awards
- Up to $8000 financial support for 1 year in IMSD
- Up to $41,000 financial support over 2 years in MARC

* Professional development to help students get into grad school and succeed in science careers

* Advising on academic, personal, and career topics, including help with graduate school applications

* Leadership, service, and mentoring opportunities to help diversify the sciences

* A supportive community of fellow undergraduate and graduate research scholars
