The Community HealthCorps of Northern California is recruiting for 10 open AmeriCorps positions in distinct communities throughout Mendocino County for our 2013-2014 program year. Community HealthCorps is the largest health-focused, national AmeriCorps program that promotes health care for America's underserved, while developing tomorrow's health care workforce.

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills Preferences:
• Some college
• Veteran or veteran family member
• Volunteer experience
• Conversant in Spanish
• Experience working with diverse populations

• Strong teamwork skills and ability to work independently
• Commitment to promoting quality healthcare & providing services to all community members

Stipend & Benefits:

• A $12,100 living allowance paid in bimonthly installments
• CalFresh food program (food stamps) benefits of up to $200/month
• Health insurance coverage and child care benefits starting immediately
• May be eligible for a $5,550 education award upon successful completion of term of service
• Student loan forbearance
• Requires a minimum of 1700 service hours over a minimum 10 month term

Program Background: The mission of the City and County of San Francisco Department of the Environment (SF Environment) is to improve, enhance, and preserve the environment, and to promote San Francisco’s longterm environmental well being. SF Environment includes Recycling, Toxics Reduction, Environmental Justice, Clean Air Transportation, Climate Change, Energy, Green Building and Public Information Programs. Position Description: The Environmental Aide will assist School Program Managers and professional staff in performing professional level work such as the following:
• Give classroom presentations to public and private (primarily elementary) schools in S.F
• Assist with giving assemblies to public and private schools in S.F
• Wear a large mascot costume as needed during assemblies
• Visit schools to support program success and conduct waste assessments
• Perform administrative support and other duties and tasks as required by the School Program
• Maintain school database
• Respond to school inquiries
• Assist with updating directories, website, and other program publications
• Assist in coordinating special events and presentations
• Follow City Department procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum three months of experience working with children and youth;
• Be available to work a 32 hour week, Monday-Thursday with occasional flexibility in hours/days,
including being available to work early mornings (starting around 7:30am) approximately 1x a week.
• Possess a valid California driver’s license. This job requires city driving at least twice a week. (Vehicle is provided.)
