Nov 10 | Biology Fellows Program & Pre-Initiative for Maximizing Student Development

Do you love research but are torn between paying the bills and doing what you love? If you have a passion for discovery and being part of a research team, you definitely should look into these TWO outstanding undergraduate research opportunities at UC Berkeley: the Biology Fellows Program (BFP) and the Pre-Initiative for Maximizing Student Development (Pre-IMSD) Spring Programs.

The deadline for both programs is November 10 at 11:59 pm. 1-2 Letters of recommendations are needed for the programs.

These are great programs for paid undergraduate research training during the Spring semester. The programs aim to increasing participation in research in the biological and behavioral sciences by students from underrepresented groups. Students in the programs will participate in monthly professional development activities as a shared community of undergraduate researchers and will present their work at an end of Spring 2014 semester research symposium (May 3rd) with their friends, families, and lab mates cheering them on.

Both students continuing in research labs and first-time undergraduate researchers are eligible.

Program #1: The Biology Fellows Program (BFP) provides research opportunities for undergraduates in the biological sciences, particularly those students for whom financial support would significantly enhance their ability to participate in research. It pays a $1700 stipend (for 10-12 hrs/wk) and you'll also learn how you can use your research in a range of careers while developing skills to excel in whatever profession you choose. Pre-meds are welcome.

BFP is a 21 year old, highly respected program that is supported in part by the generous support of U.C. Berkeley alumna.

Program #2: The Pre-Initiative for Maximizing Student Development Spring Program (Pre-IMSD Spring) provides financial support for research ($11.50/hr for 10-12 hrs/wk) program activities, and a peer community for students who are interested in exploring research and potentially pursuing a PhD. Preferences are for younger students so that they have time to continue in research at Berkeley and currently funded Pre-IMSD students.

The UC Berkeley Pre-IMSD is supported by a grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health.
