SCRAP is the world's oldest creative reuse center, and has been diverting waste from landfills for creative reuse for more than 35 years. SCRAP was founded in 1976 to provide art supplies to underfunded teachers in the San Francisco Public School system. SCRAP rescues 500,000 pounds of materials annually from businesses and individuals and redistributes them to artists, teachers, nonprofits, and the public at low or no cost to inspire creativity.

Our mission is to stimulate creativity and environmental awareness in children and adults through promoting the creative reuse of materials that traditionally have been discarded as waste. Our goals are to:

• Maximize the diversion of reusable discarded materials from the solid waste stream.
• Collect and redistribute these materials to underfunded educational programs and organizations, artists, parents, and students in the community.
• Educate and benefit the community in the art of creative reuse.
