Harvest Festival at the Victory Garden This Friday!

Hey Folks,

SAFE (Society for Agriculture and Food Ecology) is holding its annual Harvest Festival at the Victory Garden this Friday from 11-3. There will be music, apple pie, and a how to make kombucha workshop!

Come celebrate actually having something to harvest on campus, feel the crisp fall air in your lungs, and eat organic Strauss ice cream along with apple pie made from scratch!!

SAFE is a student group dedicated to promoting awareness about what a healthy and sustainable food system looks like. We hold skill share workshops about food traditions, invite farmers and activists to come speak, have movie series
We also a publish a Zine called Lettuce Turnip the Beets where we invite creative work from the community. This semester's theme is Reweaving the Food Web! Submit to lettuceturnipthebeets@gmail.com

Crude World: Writing Global Narratives That Keep Readers Awake at Night

When: Friday, October 09, 2009, 12-2:00 PM
Where: North Gate Hall Library

Peter Maass, a New York Times Magazine writer, will discuss the reporting behind his new book, Crude World: The Violent Twilight of Oil. Maass, whose research took him to Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Russia, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Ecuador and Venezuela, will talk about his methods for creating narratives that enliven global issues. He will also discuss the ways today's journalists can produce better and deeper foreign reportage than previous generations of journalists.
