Winter Break Bum

I’m not even sure which day I’ll fly home, but I’ll buy my flight ticket online sometime soon. Home is Los Angeles. It is a different world from Berkeley—where isn’t? The best thing about going home is being with Mom, and I’ll have time to paint and do things I don’t have time to get involved with during the swirl of the semester. Nonetheless home can be a distraction of bad influences. I will get into the old bumming-around-because-I-don’t-have-to-study routines and pick up old habits, like watching television. I worked hard all semester, after all. My brain needs to chill. I will watch “M.A.S.H.” and “I Love Lucy” re-runs.

Another thing I will do when I go home for winter break, I’m going to convert my mom to become vegetarian. I used to think she could eat how she wants because it’s her right. But because I care for her, the animals, and the environment, and because I have a greater knowledge of the significance of vegetarianism, I will share my knowledge and help her see the truth, which I would share here, but that would digress from the topic of this week.

The main thing I'm going to do during my three weeks away from school is focus and come to a deeper understanding of the world and myself through contemplation. This is something we should each do everyday.
