Getting those A's and zzzzzzzzzz's
By now, hopefully you are done with the first round of midterms. In many cases, midterms never seem to end. So in our pursuit of A's how do we also get those zzzzzzzzzz's? Remember, getting enough sleep ensures that you are feeling good and can work as productively as possible. A's come in hand with zzzzz's. As a senior, I am finally getting more rest and sleep than ever before. I suggest you find a way to do so before becoming a senior! And remember, CNR has wonderfully comfy sofas in 260 Mulford if you ever need a comfy seat or a place to rest your head for a few moments.
CNR is here for you. If you are finding that your classes are more difficult than you expected or at least pose obstacles that you did not foresee, feel free to make and appointment with an advisor to talk to them and see what they can do. Or even easier, come talk to a PAL during our tabling hours and we'll be happy to advise based on our experience--we've all been through various experiences and would love to share!
The Student Learning Center is an excellent resource. One of the things I wish I could change about my time here at Cal would be to have started going to the SLC before my junior year. I highly recommend science majors to take advantage of the tutors who wait for tutees. I wish I had utilized the SLC resources for general chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics. It's never too late. Just try and check it out. It's also a great place to study because you can bring food inside the SLC and eat!
Being at Cal isn't always about just getting those A's. I've come to realize that GSI and professor office hours are invaluable--really a once in a chance lifetime experience. Think about it, you're only at Cal for a relatively microcosmic time portion of your life. Take advantage of the resources here! Get to know your amazing professors and graduate students. Finding mentors while learning material at the same time is like hitting two birds with one stone (not literally).
Speaking of animal rights, a biker ran over a squirrel last week and I was appalled. Please be careful on the roads, near the wildlife (regardless of nativity), and get some rest on your pursuit of those A's!
