Jen Guyton majored in conservation and resource studies with an emphasis in communicating conservation in a developing world. She recently placed first in a field of more than 13,000 entries in a photo contest co-hosted by Outdoor Photographer and Digital Photo magazines, and she has just launched a conservation-oriented media service.

Guyton spent a year as a research intern with the Kalahari Meerkat Project, based in the Kalahari Desert in South Africa. Below, an intern weighs meerkats after they emerge from their burrow in the morning.
