Dead Coast Live Oak
The Fourth Sudden Oak Death Science Symposium is designed to bring together scientific and management communities from throughout the world working on Phytophthora ramorum and Sudden Oak Death. The goal of the conference is to provide a scientific overview on the state of our knowledge about Sudden Oak Death and P. ramorum in forest, woodland, urban forestry, nursery, and horticultural settings. At the Symposium, completed research studies will be featured, as well as updates on projects currently under way. This broad overview will foster closer cooperation between individuals working in various disciplines and geographic areas, and provide an update for managers, regulators, and policy makers about the focus of current research efforts.

Conference Location and Information:

Tankoak Canker

The Symposium will be held at the Hilton Santa Cruz/Scotts Valley in Santa Cruz, California from June 15-18, 2009. Conference participants may receive a special conference room rate; government lodging rates are available for state and federal employees. Travel expenses and registration fees are the responsibility of the speakers. Conference attire will be business casual.

Request for additional conference sponsors

Show your organization's support for Sudden Oak Death research, management, education, outreach and policy by becoming a Symposium sponsor. Your sponsorship will convey your collaboration to all that attend, read about the symposium, or reference the Proceedings or other meeting materials for years to come.

We know that budgets are extremely tight but even rather modest support (as little as $500) would help offset the costs for participants and send a message that your organization is contributing to the battle to protect our natural resources from this invasive pathogen. The funds will be used to offset speaker travel costs, for conference room rentals, and for other conference expenses.

To become a sponsor, send a check made out to the CA Oak Mortality Task Force, a 501(3)c nonprofit, public benefit corporation, Tax ID 94-324-8518. Note on the check that the funds are for the Sudden Oak Death Science Symposium sponsorship. Checks may be sent to Stephen Jones, Treasurer, COMTF, 612 Martha Way, Roseville, CA 95678.

If you have particular requirements as to what the funds are used for, please contact Katie Palmieri, palmieri@nature.berkeley.edu. There are several sponsorship methods possible and we would be happy to work with you in any way.

Please let us know of your sponsorship by April 15, 2009 since we will be printing up the symposium materials very soon and would like to include your organization's logo as among the supporters.
