ARIZONA SYCAMORE
(ARIZONA PLANETREE)
(Platanus wrightii S. Wats)
(Platanaceae)
This tree often forms continuous cover along streambanks and in floodplains in southwestern New Mexico and southern Arizona.
It is a large tree, up to 80 feet tall and over four feet in diameter. While it has little recognized commercial value, the tree is very important in its ecosytems, providing valuable cover and nesting habitat as well as materially aiding in erosion control.
This piece salvaged from flood debris, 1979.
