BEECH

An important species in the eastern forests, attaining a size of 4' x 100'. Range extends from New Brunswick west to Wisconsin and south to western Florida, Missouri and eatern Texas. Not prized highly in the American markets, although its European cousin is one of Europe's most important commercial hardwoods. The wood is hard, strong, heavy and tough, and is used for the cheaper tool handles, for woodenware, furniture, novelties, flooring.
