SHORTLEAF PINE

The most widely distributed of the Southern hard pines. Found native from Long Island, New York, south to Florida, west to southern Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas, and through the Gulf states west to Texas. Attains size of 3-4' x 100-200'. The wood is of a high technical value; moderately hard, (sometimes soft), heavy and strong; heartwood varies from light orange to light brown. Principally a building lumber, widley used for every part of a wooden house including floors and trim, and for mouldings, boxes, crates etc.
