WESTERN LARCH

The most valuable of the larch trees. Sometimes known as tamarack, although this name is more correctly applied to the larch of the Lake States. Unfortunately not very abundant. Found native in B.C., Alberta, western Montana, northern Idaho, central and northeastern Washington and northern Oregon. Of commercial importance only in Montana, Idaho and Alberta. Maximum size 8'x250', averaging 2'-2 1/2 'x150'. Wood is heavy, hard and strong, close-grained and durable. Used for construction, finish, ties, posts. This board 2"x151/2"x10'10".
