YELLOW-POPLAR
(Liriodendron tulipifera L.)

One of our most valuable hardwoods. Next to oaks, in point of quantity sold. Also known as tulip tree, and white wood. Found native from Masachusetts, south to Florida, west to Michigan, Arkansas and Mississippi. Attains a maximum size of 10' x 200', averaging 3-5' x 100'. The wood comes nearest in technical qualities to our best softwoods; it is fairly strong and durable, soft and easy to work and holds its shape well. Used for furniture, interior finish, airplanes, woodenware. This specimen measures 11/2" x 17" x 10'10" and was cut in West Virginia.
