Introduction

Animal based foods such as meat, fish and others are good sources of protein, iron, and fat.

Protein is important for the maintenance of body tissues at all ages. Protein is also needed for the growth of children.

Our bodies also need iron. Iron helps deliver oxygen to the cells. Getting enough iron in the diet will prevent iron deficiency anemia.

Fat provides concentrated energy to fuel our body’s activities and provides satiety after a meal. Fat is also important because it carries fat-soluble vitamins.

We have a tendency to eat too much meat, which is high in fat. Studies indicate a diet high in fat and cholesterol increases the risk of chronic diseases.

In this lesson, we will learn how to reduce our fat intake.
