Course Description:
This course covers the biochemical and physiologic basis of human nutritional requirements and nutritional disorders. The focus will be on the underlying metabolic principles that explain the pathophysiology and treatment of common nutritional disorders in contemporary human societies. Integrated aspects of metabolism in the whole organism will be emphasized. Case studies for selected topics of special interest or controversy will be presented. Both textbooks and primary literature sources will be used. Emphasis will be on the mechanistic basis and published evidence behind current understanding and practice.
