Office Hours.

Course description.
One hour of lecture/discussion per week. Pre-requisite: NS 103. Students will be asked to prepare an oral and written report on a topic selected from the current literature in nutritional sciences.

Topic.
Diet and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective.
This course shall focus on the role of diet in the prevention of cancer. The literature on this topic is vast. In the last 15 years, a number of expert reports have reviewed the literature on diet and cancer and made recommendations to reduce the incidence of cancer. The most recent is "Food, Nutrition and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective", commissioned by the American Institute for Cancer Research and the World Cancer Research Fund. This report is remarkable because it goes beyond scientific data to make dietary recommendations and public policy proposals. It is designed not so much as a work of reference but as a catalyst for change. In addition, unlike many other reports, it is global in perspective. We shall use this report as our text and source of material for presentation and discussion.

Grading.
Students will be graded on the quality of their oral presentation and their participation in the discussion. The presentation materials should be made available to the class on Thursday before the presentation. Attendance is mandatory.
