Projects

Information Meta-Database Project: This project is building an inventory of available data sources on the social, environmental and health effects of products and companies. We are also developing a credibility rating system to assess the quality of this information.

Information Survey Project: We plan to conduct extensive surveys of different sectors of the public to understand better their information needs. Online surveys assessing the value of different types of information to different stakeholders will be conducted and analyzed by InfoLab researchers.

XLab Information Experimentation Project: The InfoLab is also planning to work with the Berkeley XLab to conduct experiments testing the different effects of information on consumers in different contexts. We plan to organize both laboratory psychometric tests and observational field tests in different types of marketplaces, such as grocery stores and drug stores.

Information Visualization Project: A key challenge of providing complex information to the public is conveying its complexity in simple-to-understand ways. New approaches to presenting and visualizing the effects of global supply chains on our health, our communities, and the environment are therefore also being developed and assessed by the InfoLab.

Information Tools Development Project: An equally important challenge is providing this information to consumers in the most user-friendly and convenient way possible. The InfoLab is developing new tools, including both innovative internet and cell phone technologies, that deliver easy-to-understand information to people where and when they want it.
