We are delighted that you have accepted Cal’s offer of admission! CNR is your small college home within UC Berkeley.
Please read all of the information listed below carefully. There will not be any additional materials mailed to your home. It’s important to begin regularly checking your Berkeley email and personal email for any messages from the College.
Register for CalSO
Your first step towards academic success begins by registering for one of our Cal Student Orientation (CalSO) programs, which are held in June. It is important that all students participate in this orientation program.
When you attend your CalSO program, you will be able to enroll in fall semester courses.
If you do not attend CalSO, you will not be able to enroll in courses until our CalSO sessions are over in July.
By attending CalSO, you have the great advantage of enrolling in courses that may have limited space. Because programs fill quickly, we encourage you to register for a CalSO program through the New Student Services website, or by calling (510) 642-4970. Financial support may be available for students who need it.
If you will not be attending CalSO, you must notify New Student Services.
CalSO is designed to help you
- Become acquainted with the campus and its many resources
- Learn university, campus, and college requirements
- Meet your academic advisor and confirm your class schedule for fall semester
- Get to know your CNR peers and other incoming students to UC Berkeley
- Obtain your Advisor Code to access TeleBEARS, UC Berkeley’s online course enrollment system, and enroll in your first 10.5 units.
Prepare for CalSO
To make the most of CalSO, you should do three things prior to arriving on campus:
- Review the CNR Undergraduate Handbook
for an introduction to College policies and general requirements. - Review the materials and steps on the Pre-CalSO Planning Guide. Transfer students may skip steps 2, 4, and 6.
- Complete the required CNR Pre-Orientation Survey by June 8. You must complete the survey, even if you are unable to attend CalSO.
**The CNR advising office will email the link to the survey, so check your Berkeley and personal email accounts regularly. Note: You MUST check the email address registered on MyBerkeleyApp (most likely your Berkeley email address) during the last week in May if you’re a freshman, or the first week in June if you’re a transfer student. If you do not see the email after checking all of your email accounts, email cnrteaching@berkeley.edu with your name and email address so we can resend you the survey.
The College of Natural Resources is a wonderful way to experience all that Berkeley has to offer. We are very proud of our programs and our students, and we look forward to meeting you at CalSO in June!
