RESEARCH INTERESTS

I am interested in a variety of ecological questions which often have underlying application to conservation. I have a particular enthusiasm for islands, where complex ecological relationships can become reduceable and tractable. Of particular interest are population and behavioural biology questions relating to what makes species threatened or invasive, and how these trends can be reversed. I also work with macroecology questions related to biogeography such as species diversity and community composition, and in the application of genetic methods within an ecological context. My work often has a strong statistical modelling or analytical component.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

I am currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, & Management at the University of California, Berkeley. My doctoral work was based in the Rodent Invasion Project research group at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, investigating invasion behaviour and genetics of introduced rats on islands. I then worked for one year in the Seabird Team of the ECOMAR Marine Ecology laboratory at the University of Réunion Island, France, focusing on seabird biology and multi-trophic interactions of introduced species. I am also involved adjunctly with the Behavioural and Conservation Ecology group at Lund University, Sweden, modelling the species richness and detectability of the Swedish avifauna.
