Olivine Geographic
Not required for students of EPS2
Olivine can be found in many places:
- Russia*, Burma, Norway
- some Russian examples are from meteorites !!
- Red Sea area (St John Island (Zebarget)
where it has been mined for > 3500 yrs!!)
- USA: the most famous deposit is San Carlos, Arizona
(a less famous site is Kilbourne Hole, New Mexico
)
the largest faceted crystal is approx. 310 ct, found in the Smithsonian
