We viewed a series of soil profile slides from around the world to see examples of many of common combinations of soil horizon terms. The processes responsible for the horizons were also briefly examined.

Many soil profile photos are now on the web. For those interested in an array of soil profile photos (and additional information), should examine the following web sites:

1. Photo resource site

http://www.itc.nl/~rossiter/research/rsrch_ss_img.html

2. Soils of the USA

http://soils.ag.uidaho.edu/soilorders/

3. OfficialState Soils of USA (check out California, the soil description for the state soil of California is http://www.statlab.iastate.edu/cgi-bin/osd/osdname.cgi?-P)

4. USDA/NRCS Photo Gallery (check it out)

And, for future reference, here is a great web site for soil maps of the world showing the distribution of soil properties (carbon, mositure, etc).
