“Standard Operating Procedures for Agents Conducting Bed Bug Field Studies”
Dr. Vernard Lewis is a Cooperative Extension Specialist in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management, College of Natural Resources, UC Berkeley
Research indicates that field-collected strains of Cimex lectularius (Bed Bugs) may be resistant to pesticides, suggesting that current control models are inadequate, and in order to augment current models, multiple data points for wild strains are required for molecular genetics analyses. However, this involves active participation with property owners and tenants alike. This project outlines the protocol for establishing prospective sites within public and private sectors, as well as, conducting agents through the rigors of field collections, providing safety measures while researching this amazingly sophisticated and enigmatic nocturnal foe.
