Calves
. Farmers raised cattle as oxen for hauling, milk cows for milk, butter, and cheese, and beef for food.


  Chickens.
Eggs and poultry were staple foods on most farms.  


Sheep. Farmers raised sheep for wool clothing and mutton.


Barn. Substantial barns were essential for storing hay and providing shelter for livestock.
