SPANISH CEDAR

From Central America

(Cedrela odorata L.)

(Meliaceae)

Closely resembles mahogany and is therefore often sold and used as such, but it is softer and has a pungent odor, and contains an oil which works through the finish. Also known as Cigar Box Wood because of its extensive use for cigar boxes; the odor of the wood is supposed to improve the cigars. The tree attains great size in the tropical forests of Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. The wood is durable, soft, and holds its shape and is therefore prized for patterns and counter tops. This board 1-5/8"x25-3/4"x10'10", 36 board feet.
