New finding of a small pterosaur in British Columbia, Canada about the size of a house cat and with a wing span of only 1.5 m (5 feet) has questioned the idea that all azhdarchoids were enormous flying dinosaurs. The diminutive nature of this new animal, that died about 77 million years ago, suggests that pterosaurs were probably able to compete with birds all the way up to the end of the Cretaceous period when they went extinct. In a separate paper, below, another small pterosaur species, named Allkaruen koi, has been discovered in Patagonia, Argentina and the lived approximately 150 million years ago.
