Chris Dillis

Project Scientist

My research explores how cannabis farms use water, how they are regulated, and what the consequences are for freshwater resources. This work is centered in California, which is home to both the nation’s largest cannabis market and exceptional terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity. I also study the development of the regulated cannabis industry statewide and factors that may shape its geography, from land use policy to wildfire. Given the combined nascency and magnitude of cannabis as an emerging regulated agricultural sector, not only in California but nation- and worldwide, my work seeks to pull from several fields of study to provide timely and useful research for policymakers, fellow academics, and industry stakeholders.
