ERG Professor Daniel Kammen has been appointed as one of five U.S. Science Envoys by the US State Department. The U.S. Science Envoy program “demonstrates the United States’ commitment to science, technology, and innovation as tools of diplomacy and economic growth.” These distinguished scientists will collaborate internationally with governments, universities, non-profits and the private sector to forge connections between countries to motivate sustained corporation. Daniel Kammen will focus on energy innovation in the Middle East and Africa.
In an interview with the Goldman School of Public Policy, Kammen announced that he is honored to pursue “the opportunity to work with the Power Africa/Beyond the Grid/Energy Access agenda, the team working on the Central American Obama/Biden engagement initiative and the Development Lab/HESN and other efforts at USAID, and the wider Paris Accord.”
Daniel Kammen, Ph.D., is the Class of 1935 Distinguished Professor of Energy in the Energy and Resources Group, the Goldman School of Public Policy, and the department of Nuclear Engineering. Kammen directs the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory (RAEL) and the Transportation Sustainability Research Center (TSRC) and co-directs the Berkeley Institute of the Environment. He also serves on the Advisory Committee for Energy & Environment for the X-Prize Foundation.
