ESPM Department Manager Nicole Lowy Wins Outstanding Staff Award

May 28, 2026

Congratulations to Environmental Science Management and Policy department manager Nicole Lowy on winning the Chancellor's Outstanding Staff Award (COSA).

The Chancellor's Outstanding Staff Awards are among the highest honors given to UC Berkeley staff by the Chancellor. They are presented to individual staff members who demonstrate exceptional initiative to create a significant positive impact on the UC Berkeley campus community.

In her role, Lowy oversees ESPM’s departmental budget and all administrative operations, and serves as a resource to faculty, staff, and students.

“Through her tireless dedication, consistency, and service-oriented vision for nearly 20 years, Nicole has not only met the high standards of this award but is a model of excellence for us all, " states a letter nominating Lowy for the award. Another section of the nomination letter reads, “Across the many units, I have seen her collaborate, whether providing 'quiet leadership' during difficult times or ensuring a student has a safe space. Nicole is constantly passing the good along to others.”

Lowy and the other 2026 COSA recipients were recognized at a ceremony on March 31st, with the Chancellor and other senior administrators in attendance.
