Meaghan DeRespini (She/Her)

Job title:
Assistant Dean of Instruction and Student Affairs
Program:
Instruction & Student Affairs
Bio/CV:

It is such a privilege to get to be a part of our students’ journeys, and one that I do not take for granted. I have always known that I want to work in education (as evidenced by the family photo my parents would share of 6-year old Meaghan standing at a chalkboard with my aunt’s glasses on, teaching her addition) and thought that would take the form of classroom teaching. I studied Social Studies Education and International Education in my undergraduate and graduate studies at New York University, and then I started at UC Berkeley in 2009 while I worked to finish up my teaching credential requirements. I realized that I really like this higher education thing and never left!

I joined the then College of Natural Resources advising team as the Nutritional Science & Toxicology advisor from 2018-2022. In that time, I also coordinated the Honors Program, our study abroad academic integration efforts, and co-coordinated our Peer Advising Leaders (PALs) program as well. In 2022, I had the opportunity to move into the Assistant Director of Advising Operations role which took me away from my beloved Nutritional Science students, but allowed me an opportunity to support students across the college in a really wide range of spaces. In 2025, I started a brief 14 month stint in the L&S Office of Undergraduate Advising where I had the pleasure of working with a really lovely, big(!) team of advisors supporting the largest college on campus. I loved my time with L&S Advising, but when the opportunity presented itself to come home to the Rausser College of Natural Resources as the Assistant Dean of Instruction & Student Affairs, I jumped at the chance. I am thrilled to be back on the second floor of Mulford! It is such a gift to support this group of student-centered, equity-minded, wonderful-human advisors and staff as they dedicate their days to supporting our amazing Rausser College undergraduate students.

When I am not in Mulford Hall, I like to read, run, podcast (listen, not create), drink hot chocolate (I do this lots in Mulford Hall, too), and shuttle my kids to their various school and athletic events - so many events!

I hope that you come visit us often in 260 Mulford! I will look forward to seeing you there.
