Project Description: 

The overall goal of the Karuk Agroecosystem Resilience Initiative, led by the University of California at Berkeley and the Karuk Tribe, is to enhance the resilience of cultural agroecosystems under variable climatic conditions within Karuk Aboriginal Territory in the Klamath River Basin. UCB interns have formed a critical part of our collaborative team and impact. For fall 2020, we are looking for an enthusiastic and qualified UCB undergraduate who can fulfill the following roles and tasks with the following skills. You would be working most closely with UC Berkeley post-doctoral researchers, supported by Professor Sowerwine and Project Manager Dr. Doshi. In this ongoing time of pandemic and health considerations, all work can be done from your home location with a reliable internet connection.

Undergraduate's Role: 

·      Review botanical related publications and summarize pertinent information

·    Enter data from herbarium voucher specimen into an Excel spreadsheet

·      Create labels for herbarium specimens based on aggregated data

Undergraduate's Qualifications: 

·       Experience working with plants in some capacity

·      Experience reading academic literature and summarizing key information

·      Attention to detail, precision, and patience when performing detail oriented and tedious tasks 

·      Experience with data entry

·      Proficiency in Word, Excel, Google drive and online search engines

·      Ability to work independently and stay focused on deliverables
