Project Description:

This project involves using secondary data (from India) to better understand farmer behavior. Specifically, the project will involve analyzing detailed farmer survey data on crop choice as well as technology choice (combine harversters) in rural India and its relationship to the labor market. The introduction of combine harvesters is thought to lead to a reduction in demand for manual labor and this project will aim to document whether this is the case and whether the effects vary by demographics (e.g. whether overall female labor force participation declines). The data is public use data from ICRISAT (India)
