Information about Collembola in general:
- Propel themselves by ¨clicking¨ a forked structure on the bottom of their abdomen against the ground.
- Range in size from 0.25mm to 6mm (0.1in. to 2.4in.)
- Some species live in the ground, decaying logs, or in fungi, while other species even live in termite and ant nests.
- Most springtails that live in the ground feed on decaying vegetation, fungi and bacteria, while other species eat arthropod feces, algae and pollen.
